In this episode I talk about acceptance, and why accepting the way things are is the starting point for change. When you argue with reality you’re fighting a losing battle. You expend all your energy being frustrated or angry or resentful, and reality always wins.
The idea of acceptance as a starting point for change seems counter-intuitive. It sounds like acquiescence, giving up or saying everything is ok. But the opposite is true. When you accept what’s going on, you gain authority over the situation, it frees you up to see more clearly and you’re better placed to find the solutions that will lead to change.
